The extradition trial of the murder accused of Gujarati origin will start from 2022

New Delhi: The extradition trial of Jayasukh Ranapariya, a Gujarati-origin accused of murder and about 30 other crimes in India, will begin in May next year at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London. The 31-year-old accused is also known as Jayesh Patel. He has not applied for bail. He is currently being held at Belmarsh Prison in south-east London.

His case will be heard in the court on July 15 through video link. A case management hearing will be held in January next year, the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said this week.

The CPS has said that Ranapariya's extradition hearing has been fixed for three weeks starting May 8, 203. Ranapariya has not applied for bail and will remain in custody on remand.

He said the call for his hearing would come on July 12, 2021. In addition, the case management hearing will be held on January 6, 206, after which further guidelines will be considered.

According to the London Metropolitan Police, Ranapariya was arrested on March 17 in South London on the same day on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by the Indian authorities. The UK has received an extradition request from the Indian authorities. He is accused of conspiracy to commit murder, which he formed in April 2016.

Interpol issued a red cornice notice against Ranapariya and ordered his custody. Gujarat Police is looking for him for the crime committed three years ago. CPS District Judge Timothy Godfrey, who appeared for the Indian authorities at the earlier hearing, said the accused was wanted in India. He had conspired to assassinate a lawyer named Kirit Joshi in India in April 2016 and paid Rs 2 crore to a contract killer.

Ranapariya also had some fake IDs and bank cards when he was arrested in London in March. His case will be heard by video conferencing every two days, until he is in judicial custody.
