Sidhu will not be made Deputy Chief Minister at any cost: Capt Amarinder Singh

New Delhi, 22 June 2021 Tuesday

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who has been facing constant verbal attacks from MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu and facing criticism from his own party for giving government jobs to MLA's sons, met a three-member committee constituted by the party high command in New Delhi on Tuesday.

It is learned that during the meeting, the three-member committee discussed with the Chief Minister the political situation in Punjab, the upcoming elections of the Congress party and the Navjot Singh Sidhu chapter. The committee has handed over the responsibility of finding a solution to most of the issues to the Chief Minister.

There, it also came out that the captain had made it clear to the three-member committee that he would not make Sidhu the deputy chief minister at any cost. Although the committee did not make a decision on its behalf during the meeting, the state has urged Congress to find other possible ways to resolve the disputes as soon as possible. Meanwhile, after a meeting of the committee with the chief minister on Tuesday, party sources said the committee would soon call Navjot Singh Sidhu for talks and also hear his party.

After the meeting, committee chairman Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Everyone has agreed that they will contest the elections together." He said the party was united under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. On the other hand, Harish Rawat, a member of the committee and in-charge of Punjab affairs, declined to comment on the discussion at the meeting, while on the issue of Navjot Sidhu, he said only that the matter had come to the notice of party president Sonia Gandhi.
