Washington: A 45-year-old American man has been convicted of carrying out a cyber attack on a Georgia state hospital in 2018. Vikas Singla, a resident of Marietta, Georgia, was convicted by a federal grand jury on June 8.

Sangla was working as chief operating officer at a Metro-Atlanta network security company when the cyber attack took place. The company operates in the healthcare sector. On June 8, Acting U.S. Attorney Erskine said Sangla launched a cyber attack on Gwynet Medical Center in 2018.

Singla said Singla had affected the phone service by launching a cyber attack. Which also affected the network printer service. The judge further said that the cyber attack was carried out for financial gain.

Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division of the Justice Department, Nicholas L. McQuaid, said the hospital system was disrupted due to a cyber attack on the hospital's computer network.

He further added that the American Department of Justice is ready to impose harsh sentences on the accused who endangered the lives of hospital patients. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
