Dominica's leader bribes his elder brother to stop extradition of Mehul Choksi

Mehul Choksi, accused of embezzling tens of crores of Punjab National Bank loans, has been slapped by his brother to prevent the Dominican government from extraditing him to India.

According to an explosive Caribbean media report, Mehul's elder brother Chetan Choksi has bribed Dominica's opposition lawmakers to save him. Not only that, Mehul has also promised to help the opposition MPs in the elections so that the Dominican government can send them to India.

Chetan Choksi held a two-hour closed-door meeting with Dominica's opposition leader Lennox Linton. During the meeting, he offered Linton help in the election if the opposition helped to suppress the issue in parliament. Has also given Linton બે 200,000 in token money and promised further help.

Opposition leader Lenin Linter also said in a statement that the Dominican government should not extradite Mehul Choksi to India. According to the report, Chetan Choksi runs a company called Diminko NV. Which is a subsidiary of the company based in Hong Kong. The company claims to have a large business of integrated diamonds and jewelery. Chetan was also seen outside a London court during Nirav Modi's trial in 2019.

Mehul Choksi disappeared from his home in Antigua on the evening of the 23rd. It was claimed at the time that he had fled to Cuba. Mehul Choksi is a citizen of Antigua and was on the verge of fleeing by sea but as soon as he reached Dominica the authorities caught up with him.

Antigua PM Gaston Brown also urged the Dominican court to send Choksi directly to India. Choksi's lawyers then petitioned the court to extradite him to India. The court has ordered that the petition be kept in the country till the hearing is completed. On the other hand, eight Indian officials with a private plane are camped in Dominica for the extradition of Mehul Choksi.
