Corona strain found in India to be known as 'Delta', WHO names Kovid variants

Amid the ongoing controversy over the existence of the Corona variant, the World Health Organization has named the main variant of the Corona, the SARS-CoV-2, as pronounced and easy to remember. The virus responsible for the corona is named using the Greek alphabet.

The name has been decided after extensive opinion and review. For this the World Health Organization directed an expert group from all over the world. It also included naming system experts, nomenclature, virus toxonomic experts, researchers and national authorities.

The World Health Organization will assign labels to variants that have been designated as variants of interest or variants of concern. Corona variant B.1.617.2 G / 452R.V3 found in India in October 2020 has been named as Delta variant. The second strain of the virus (B.1.617.1) found in India is named 'Kappa'.

The variant found in Britain in September 2020 has been named 'Alpha'. While the variant found from South Africa is named 'Beta'. The organization named the strain found in Brazil in November 2020 as 'Gamma', the strain found in the US as 'Epsilon' and the strain found in the Philippines in January 2021 as 'Theta'.

Controversy over virus found in India

It may be mentioned that there was a huge controversy over the Corona variant found in India. The government recently asked social media companies to immediately remove all content from their platforms in which a variant of the Corona virus was linked to the name India.
