China made strenuous efforts to deactivate the US in the quad: Biden

The US-India-Japan and Australia have been cooperating since 2002 under the name Quad. The four countries also launched a military exercise to respond to China's maritime intrusion.
US President Joe Biden revealed at the G-7 summit that China had made "every effort" to keep the United States inactive in quad dialogues. China's top leader explained to Biden.
"I had a telephone conversation with China's top leader a few days before I was sworn in as president," Biden told a news conference during the G-7 summit. In it, the Chinese leader urged me that US-China relations would be further strengthened if the US withdrew from quad dialogues.
Joe Biden said without naming Xi Jinping that the leader had lobbied hard to get America out of the quad. Biden had a two-hour telephone conversation with Jinping before being sworn in. Biden himself shared the information on Twitter at the time. It is possible that at that time Jinping suggested to Biden to quit the quad.
However, Biden then hosted the first virtual conference of quad countries on March 15.
