Chartered Accountant's Examinations Should Not Be Canceled or Postponed

New Delhi, 28 June 2021 Monday

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Monday told the apex court that the chartered accountant exams scheduled for July 5 should not be canceled or postponed as the transition to Covid-19 is now very low. ICAI said the exams are an opportunity for CA students to pursue their professional careers.

In a brief note given to the Supreme Court by ICAI, it said that the number of Kovid-19 cases is much less than today and thus it would be in the best interest of the candidates to be taken as per the examination schedule, so the examinations should not be canceled or postponed.

The note also said that CA exams are professional exams which cannot be compared with 10th or 12th exams conducted by CBSE or other state boards. A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Anirudh Bose on Monday said that the next CA exam 2021 case would be heard on Tuesday.

The apex court has asked ICAI to respond to the suggestions made by the applicants in three separate petitions seeking moderation in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the July 5 exam.

The application sought postponement of the CA exam until the COVID-19 situation normalizes or teachers, students and supervisors are vaccinated.
