Center notices Mamata Banerjee's advisor Alpan

New Delhi: The Center has issued a new notice to Alpan Bandopadhyay, an adviser to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. According to sources, the notice warns of a massive strike or action.

Alpan, the former chief secretary of Bengal, has received a letter from the central government warning of heavy fines or action for non-compliance. Alpan Bandopadhyay, a top Bengal official, retired from the post of chief secretary of state earlier this month amid clashes with the Center. Soon after his retirement, Bandopadhyay was appointed as an adviser to Mamata Banerjee's government.

Alap had to face the displeasure of the central government for his brief attendance at the Cyclone Yass review meeting in West Bengal chaired by Prime Minister Modi. The Center has taken note of Alpan Bandopadhyay's absence and called on him to respond within 30 days to the retired IAS officer.

In a contingency decision, the Center had sought Bandopadhyay's services on May 9 and asked a top official to take charge in Delhi. The central government's order to summon Bandopadhyay to Delhi was issued after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Cyclone Yass was completed by the Chief Minister in just 15 minutes.
