4.51 lakh houses will be constructed in cities under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (city), the government has approved 203 proposals for construction of 4.31 lakh houses. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Sanction and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) held in Delhi under PMAY-U.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) said that the CSMC meeting was attended by representatives from 12 states and Union Territories.

This is the first meeting of the committee amid the second wave of Corona. This meeting proves how much importance the government is giving to the housing scheme for all. At the meeting, MOHUA Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra announced the PMAU-U Award 2021.

This award will be given to the States and Union Territories who have done the best. The ministry stressed on completing the construction of the accommodation within the stipulated time. He further said that now our main objective is to complete the projects within the stipulated time.

It may be mentioned that so far 114.5 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U out of which construction work of 4.5 lakh houses has been started. Out of which 2.21 lakh houses have been completed. The meeting also emphasized on light house project. The project will be launched in Agartala, Chennai, Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot and Indore.
