43000 crore project approved for six submarines: Make in India


The navy will be strengthened to counter China-Pakistan at sea

New Delhi: A project for production of indigenous submarines was approved by the Defense Ministry on Friday. The project, which is considered important against China, will currently produce six submarines. The total cost is estimated at Rs 43,000 crore. The Indian defense ministry has also approved the purchase of Rs 6,000 crore worth of weapons amid a border dispute with China. Air defense guns and ammunition will be procured.

One of the aims of the project is to encourage indigenous defense producers. The Navy has launched this project to increase its strength in maritime areas. Under which 6 big submarines will be built. Which will be diesel-electric based. Which will be up to 50 percent larger than current Scorpion class submarines.

It wants heavy-duty firepower in the facility requested by the Indian Navy in this submarine. In addition to anti-ship cruise missiles, 12 Land Attack cruise missiles can also be deployed. The Navy also demanded that the submarine be capable of carrying 18 heavyweight torpedoes.

Notably, the Indian Navy has about 140 submarines and surface warships. When we compare the Pakistan Navy, it has only 20. However, India's clash is not only with Pakistan but also with China which is trying to strengthen its position in the Indian Ocean. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the production of six submarines and a defense deal worth Rs 6,000 crore.
