3.7 magnitude earthquake shakes Palghar


Danger in small Dhundalwadi and nearby villages: The epicenter of the earthquake is 5 km deep underground.

Mumbai: Sources at the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that the ground in Palghar was rocked again today. The mild tremors were felt in and around Dhundalwadi village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district.

A 3.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Dhundalwadi village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district at around 11:57 am on Thursday, NCS sources said. The epicenter was reported at a depth of 5 km.

Government sources in Dahanu taluka said that as the quake was relatively mild, there were no reports of any damage to any building or other construction. No casualties were reported. However, the quake sent shockwaves through Dhundalwadi and nearby villages.

Even so, mild tremors have been frequent in the entire area for about one and a half to two years.
