WhatsApp Privacy: Delhi High Court seeks reply from Central Government, Facebook, WhatsApp

New Delhi, 17 May 2021 Monday

The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Center, Facebook and the messaging app to clarify their stance on the petition filed against WhatsApp's new privacy policy. Chief Justice D.N. A bench of Patal and Justice Jyoti Singh has issued notices to the central government and both social media platforms (Facebook and WhatsApp), directing them to clarify their position on the petition.

The petition was filed by a lawyer, claiming that WhatsApp's new privacy policy, which came into force on May 15, violates the app users' privacy rights provided under the constitution. Prosecutors present on WhatsApp told the court during the hearing that the policy has not been postponed and has been in effect since May 15.

He said that for some time it will not delete the accounts of users who do not accept the new user policy, and will encourage them to accept the new policy. A further hearing in the case will now take place on June 3.

WhatsApp's privacy policy has been in effect since 15. WhatsApp has said that if you do not accept its new privacy policy, it will not delete your account but will gradually shut down all features, for example, notification of someone's message to you. Will be seen but you will not be able to read it.
