Alerts have been issued in several states due to the hurricane Toukte rising from the Arabian Sea. Four people have died due to heavy rains in Karnataka and a total of 73 villages in the state have been affected by the cyclone. Hurricane Touk has also hit the coast of Goa.
The impact of the hurricane was seen at Panaji. There are reports of heavy damage in Goa due to the hurricane. Trees have fallen on the roads in many places and it has also damaged vehicles parked below. Heavy winds along with torrential rains are also falling on the coast of Goa.
The storm is expected to pass through Mumbai on Sunday. Because of this, BMC has evacuated hundreds of Kovid patients. A high alert has also been issued in Gujarat following the threat of hurricane. 40 villages of Surat district and 28 villages of Olpad area have been alerted. The ro-ro ferry service between Surat Hazira and Bhavnagar has also been closed for May 17-18. Alerts have been issued in 30 villages of Porbandar in Saurashtra.

Amit Shah called a review meeting
Home Minister Amit Shah called a review meeting following the hurricane. The meeting was attended by officials from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Diu-Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli states.
According to the meteorological department, the storm will hit the coast of Mangrol between Veraval and Porbandar in Gujarat. The coastal areas of Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat are expected to be affected by the storm for three days. The meteorological department estimates that winds of 150 to 160 kmph may blow during the storm.
