The central government has increased the subsidy on DAP fertilizer by 140 per cent. Farmers will now get a subsidy of Rs 1,200 instead of Rs 500 per sack of DAP. Due to the increase in subsidy, farmers will now get a sack of DAP at Rs 1,200 instead of Rs 2,400.

The government will spend an additional Rs 14,775 crore on this subsidy. Prime Minister Modi said that despite the rise in international prices, farmers will get fertilizer at the old prices. The welfare of the farmers is the top priority of the government. Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting on the issue of fertilizer prices. Prime Minister Modi was given a detailed presentation on the topic of fertilizer prices through a presentation.

The meeting discussed the issue of rising fertilizer prices due to rising prices of phosphoric acid, ammonia, etc. internationally. The Prime Minister stressed that despite the rise in international prices, farmers should get fertilizer at the old prices. The meeting took a historic decision to increase the subsidy for DAP fertilizer from Rs 500 per sack to Rs 1,200 per sack by 140 per cent. The central government has decided to bear the entire burden of inflation. The amount of subsidy per sack has never been increased so much at once.

Last year, the actual price of DAP was Rs 1,700 per sack with the Center subsidizing Rs 500 per sack. Due to this, the company was selling fertilizer to farmers at Rs 1,200 per sack. Currently, the international prices of phosphoric acid, ammonia, etc. used in DAP have increased by 60 to 70 per cent.
