Production of 60 million doses of covacin, consumption of only 2.1 crore, where did the remaining doses go?

New Delhi, May 28, 2021, Friday

One of the two corona vaccines being developed in the country does not match the production of covacin and its vaccination figures.

As many as 2.1 crore doses of Bharat Biotech Company's covacin vaccine have been delivered to the public by Thursday morning, according to government figures. At least 60 million doses of the vaccine should be available in the country, according to company and central government statements. This raises the question of where the other four crore doses went.

According to an English newspaper report, Krishna Ala, CMD of Bharat Biotech, said on April 20 that the production was 1.5 crore doses in March and 20 million doses in April, while 30 million doses are expected to be produced in May. Assuming that the vaccine is produced at the same speed, at least 20 million doses may have been made in May.

The affidavit of the central government states that the production of covacin is 20 million doses per month. Accordingly, 60 million doses would have been produced in three months. Even before the vaccination began on January 5, the company said it had stockpiled 20 million doses of the vaccine. Thus, the total dose is about 80 million.

It is possible that some quantities were exported at that time as part of the vaccine's diplomacy. However, a total of 66 million doses of corona vaccine have been exported from India. A large part of which belongs to Covishield. Even if the total dose exported is 20 million doses of Covacion, it should account for 60 million doses in India. If only 21 million doses have been given instead, what is the rest of the vaccine?

The states are crying out for a shortage of covacin. There are 14 small states and union territories where not a single dose of co-vaccine has been given. The dose of this vaccine has been five per cent in five states.
