Pinarayi Vijayan becomes Kerala Chief Minister for second time in a row, son-in-law Riaz gets cabinet seat

Leading CPIM leader Pinarayi Vijay has been sworn in as Kerala Chief Minister for the second time in a row. He was administered the oath of office by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan at a swearing-in ceremony in the capital, Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Vijayan, 76, has made 21 MLAs ministers in his cabinet.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted congratulations to Vijayan. "Congratulations to Pinarayi Vijayan for taking oath as Chief Minister and starting his second term," he tweeted.

Before the swearing-in ceremony of the LDF government, Pinarayi Vijanay and his cabinet ministers paid tribute to the martyrs of the Punnapara-Vaylar movement of the working class that took place here in 1940. Vijayan first visited a monument in Vylar and offered wreaths to the martyrs amid slogans of party workers.

Among the first-time ministers are DYFI national president and Vijayan's son-in-law PA Mohammad Riyas, CPI's acting secretary of state A Vijayaragwan's wife R Bindu (CPI), GR Anil, Chinchu Rani and P Prasad (CPI) and Ahmed Devarkovil (INL).
