Kerala elections: Incumbent CM Vijayan seeks return to power, hits Congress-backed UDF

New Delhi, May 2, 2021

Counting is underway for 140 seats in the Kerala Assembly and the Left Party-led coalition LDF is seen returning to power.

In other words, incumbent Chief Minister P Vijayan looks set to regain power in Kerala. Out of 140 seats, the LDF and the Congress-led UDF are leading in 92 seats out of 92, while the BJP is leading in just one seat.

In Kerala, there is usually a wave of opposition to the ruling party in every election, but the LDF, led by P. Vijayan, seems to be back in power and Kerala's tradition seems to be being broken. He used his strength to campaign for the election.

As Rahul Gandhi is a Congress MP from Kerala, this election was also a matter of prestige for him and he was the most active in Kerala. On the other hand, the name of the present CM P Vijayan was mentioned in the gold smuggling case even before the election.

However, the results show that the Left parties are going to form a government in Kerala again.
