Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers are constantly warning that China's ban on cargo planes could jeopardize the supply of drugs around the world. This is not only a problem for India but also for the countries to which India exports drugs. The US is also largely dependent on India for its supply of medicines. Under these circumstances, if the production of medicines is affected, there will be a crisis of shortage of many medicines.

In fact, China's state-run Sichuan Airlines has banned its cargo flights for the next 15 days due to rising corona cases in India. According to Mahesh Doshi, national president of the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of India (IDMA), China supplies 60 to 70 per cent of the raw materials used by Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers and also supplies medicines to markets around the world.

Mahesh Doshi wrote a letter to Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on April 29, expressing concern over the possible crisis. "If China continues to ban cargo flights in this way, the supply of medicines around the world will be affected," he wrote.
