IMD warns of cyclone to hit Arabian Sea on May 16

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a warning, indicating that a cyclone has formed in the Arabian Sea on May 16. If that happens, it will be the first cyclone of 2021 to form in the North Indian Ocean region and Myanmar has named it 'Tukta'. Ocean conditions are critical in May for cyclogenesis in the region.

The meteorological department has also warned of moderate rains in Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu from May 16 to Thursday. Rainfall will be mainly due to the composition of the pressure system and its intensity. The hurricane is expected to form a low pressure area in the southeast Arabian Sea on the morning of May 14. It could form a severe hurricane in the east-central Arabian Sea around May 16 and move northwest.

The hurricane caused 40 to 50 km of rain in the Lakshadweep, Maldives area from Thursday morning on May 14. Rain can fall with wind blowing at the speed of per hour. On May 15, its speed in these areas could range from 60 to 70 km per hour. At the same time, on May 16, wind speeds in the Lakshadweep area could reach 80 kilometers per hour. Similarly, strong winds are also forecast along the coasts of Kerala, Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra from May 14 to 16.
