Himant Biswa Sarma becomes Assam's next chief minister

- Sarvanand Sonowal may be called to Delhi after Himant Biswa becomes Chief Minister

The suspense over the name of the Chief Minister that has been going on in Assam for the last one week has finally come to an end. The name of Himant Biswa Sarma was agreed at a meeting of the BJP MLAs on Sunday. Himant Biswa Sarma will be the new Chief Minister of Assam.

Sarvanand Sonowal is behind in the race for the post of Chief Minister of Assam. It was Sarvanand Sonowal who put forward his name in the meeting of the MLAs and everyone agreed. Along with Sarvanand Sonowal, BJP MLA Nandita Garsola proposed the name of Himant Biswa Sarma in which the rest of the MLAs agreed.

Assam Chief Minister Sarvanand Sonowal has tendered his resignation to Governor Jagdish Mukhi. Himant Biswa Sarma and Sarvanand Sonowal both reached the assembly in the same car. Sarvanand Sonowal may be recalled to Delhi after Himant Biswa becomes chief minister. Before becoming the Chief Minister of Assam, Sonowal was the Sports Minister in the Modi government from 2014 to 2016.
