Hemant Viswa Sarma sworn in as Assam Chief Minister, Governor Jagdish Mukhi administered oath

New delhi date. May 10, 2021, Monday

After the BJP's victory in the Assam Assembly, BJP leader Hemant Viswa Sarma was today sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam. Governor Jagdish Mukhi has sworn him in as the new Chief Minister of Assam. The swearing in ceremony of the new cabinet was held at Shrimant Shankardev Kalakshetra. Earlier on Sunday, Hemant Viswa Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP's Bill Dal and Assam's NDA Legislative Dal.

BJP national president JP Nadda was also present at his swearing-in ceremony. Also present at the swearing-in ceremony were Tripura Chief Minister Biplob Deb, Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad Sangma, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Nagaland Chief Minister Nifiu Rio and former Assam Chief Minister Sarvanand Sonwal.

Hemant Viswa Sarma visited Dol Govinda Temple and Kamakhya Temple before the swearing-in ceremony. Before taking oath, he said that former chief minister Sonwal would be his mentor and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for their support in making me chief minister.

Hemant Viswa Sarma has won the Jalukbari assembly seat in Assam for the fifth time in a row. He has previously been a minister in the Sonwal government. He is a lawyer and has traveled from lawyer to CM. Earlier, he was in the Congress but joined the BJP in 2015.

In Assam, the NDA alliance has won a majority for the second time in a row. The BJP has won 60 of Assam's 126 assembly seats. The BJP's ally Assam Gana Parishad won 9 seats and the United People's Party Liberal won 6 seats.
