DRDO's big success: organization develops DIPCOVAN antibody detection kit, find out how it works

The country is working closely with everyone from doctors to scientists to deal with Corona, in the same vein, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of the Government of India has had great success. Indeed the organization has developed a DIPCOVAN antibody detection kit. This kit can detect mutations in viruses with a high sensitivity of 97% and specificity of 99%. In addition, it can detect the nucleocapsid protein of the virus.

It has been developed in collaboration with Vanguard Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi-based development and manufacturing company. It was developed indigenously by scientists, then subjected to verification based on extensive testing of samples from more than 1000 patients at various Kovid hospitals in Delhi. The purpose of the DIPCOVAN kit is to detect antibodies or plasma needed to fight corona in the human body. The kit will be valid for 18 months.

The DRDO said that in the last one year, three batches of this antibody test kit DIPCOVAN have been approved. In April 2021, the kit was approved by ICMR. Now in May, the product has also been approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). The kit can now be sold on the open market.
