4 Navy ships, 11 Air Force cargo and 25 helicopters deployed to deal with 'Yas' hurricane

The army is preparing for a war to deal with the Yas storm, which has now formed in the Bay of Bengal and is moving at a speed of 155-165 km per hour. 4 Navy ships and helicopters while 11 Air Force cargo planes and 25 helicopters like Cheetah, Chetak and MI-17 have been deployed.

Apart from that, 5C-130 aircraft, 2 Dornier aircraft and 4 AN-32 aircraft have also taken over the front. In addition, about 70 NDRF teams have been deployed. Out of them, 46 teams are equipped with boats, tree felling, telecommunication equipment etc. in 5 states / UTs including West Bengal, Odisha. Apart from that, 13 teams are being airlifted for deployment on Sunday and 10 teams have been asked to be vigilant and ready. The information was given to Prime Minister Modi on Sunday at a high-level meeting convened to review the readiness of the states and central ministries / agencies to tackle the problem.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) told the Prime Minister that Yas, hitting 155-165 kmph, could hit the coasts of West Bengal and North Odisha on the evening of May 26 at 185 kmph. This could lead to heavy rains in the coastal districts of Bengal and northern Odisha. The meteorological department has warned that the coastal areas of Bengal and Odisha are likely to experience a storm of about 2-4 meters.
