US military presence in Indo-Pacific region will remain unchanged: Biden

- Addressing the joint session of the American Parliament for the first time

- We welcome competition but not conflict, although we will continue to protect American interests

Washington: The United States has made it clear to China that it will maintain a strong military presence in the Indo-Pacific region. However, US President Joe Biden has made it clear that the US military presence is intended not to start a conflict but to prevent any other conflict. It may be mentioned that China has been trying to increase its dominance in the region for the last few years.

Addressing a joint session of the US Congress for the first time, Biden said he had told Chinese President Jinping that he welcomed competition but not conflict. However he said he would continue to protect American interests.

He further added that no responsible American president can remain silent at a time when fundamental rights are being violated. Relations between the United States and China are at an all-time low.

America will stand by its commitment not to remain silent against human rights violations and deprivation of fundamental freedoms. America will not remain silent even against those who harm American workers and industries through unfair trade policy.

"I have made it clear to him that the United States does not want to escalate tensions, but that his actions are exacerbating tensions," Biden said, using harsh words against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
