The US space agency NASA has landed a helicopter on the surface of Mars. The helicopter was sent to the Red Planet, covering the belly of the Mars Perseverance Rover. Named the Ingenuity, the helicopter hid in the rover's belly like a kangaroo cub.

A few days ago Ingenuity tasted the air of Mars and now it has even touched its surface. The helicopter will explore whether rotorcraft technology can be used on the surface of Mars and in the atmosphere there. The rover dropped the helicopter 4 inches above the ground. The rover moved forward after the helicopter landed on the surface. The helicopter, which weighed 1.8kg, was secured to the abdomen above the rover's wheels and the cover was removed on March 21.

The helicopter has a battery that can be charged with solar energy and has solar panels on its wings. The helicopter will make its maiden flight on April 11 and its data will reach Earth a day later on April 12. NASA has spent Rs 623 crore to build this helicopter and its wings fly 2,537 rounds per minute. The helicopter is capable of flying 300 feet simultaneously and will later have to be recharged by landing.

To date no rotorcraft, drones or helicopters have been sent to any planet and if this helicopter succeeds in flying to Mars then in future such spacecraft like drones or rotorcraft can be sent to other planets.
