Myanmar: More than 80 protesters killed in security forces operation

Myanmar's security forces have once again launched a major crackdown on protesters against the military coup. More than 80 protesters have been reported killed in the crackdown. Security forces are said to have used rifle grenades to disperse the protesters. 82 people were killed in the proceedings. However, a spokesman for the military regime defended the action of the security forces at Napita.

The operation was reportedly carried out by government security forces and police at Bago, about 100 km northeast of Yangon. Security forces killed more than 80 protesters in Bago on Thursday night and Friday, according to a Myanmar news portal.

Security forces used lethal force on protesters for the third time this week. Protesters were demanding the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi in protest of the military coup.

More than 614 deaths so far

Security forces have been cracking down on protesters in Myanmar since February 1. Military crackdown on protesters has killed at least 614 people so far.
