Indian, French navies to launch 3-day maneuvers in Arabian Sea from today

The navies of India and France will begin a three-day maneuver in the Arabian Sea from Sunday, during which complex naval operations such as the Advanced Air Defense and Anti-Submarine will be conducted. The 19th edition of the Varun exercise will demonstrate the level of coordination and joint operation between the two navies, officials said.

He said the Indian Navy-directed Missile Penetrating Destroyer Kolkata-directed missile frigate Taraksh and Talwar, fleet assistant ship Deepak, a Kalwari range submarine and a long-range P-8I marine patrol aircraft would be deployed.

Accompanying the Raphael M fighter jet will be aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, representing the E2C Hawkeye aircraft and helicopters Cayman M and Dauphin French Navy. The French navy will also deploy air defense destroyers Chevalier Paul, frigate Provence and ship warships.

Western Team Flag Officer Commanding Rear Admiral Ajay Kochhar will lead the Indian Party and Commander Task Force 473 Rear Admiral Mark Osedat will lead the French Party.
