Hindus have been persecuted in Bangladesh for 50 years: Tulsi Gabbard

Dhaka, Ta. 3. Saturday, April, 2021

Indian-American leader Tulsi Gabbard has expressed outrage at the ongoing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Tulsi Gabbard, one of the most powerful leaders of Indian descent in the US, took to social media to express his outrage that Bengali Hindus had been under attack since 1971. The Pak army killed and raped millions of Hindus in 1971 and forced them to flee. The reason was religious.

"Hindus have been persecuted in Bangladesh for over 50 years," he said. "In 1971, the Pak army conspired to kill Hindus and rape Hindu women. They were evicted from their homes. It is a fact that Bengali Hindus were targeted because of their religion." Villages with Hindu population in Shuat were targeted by the Pak army. The Pak army also attacked a hostel at Dhaka University where Hindu students were staying.

On the night of March 25, 1971, 5,000 to 10,000 people were killed. The genocide lasted for 10 months, in which 20 to 30 lakh people were killed. Thousands of women were raped. Even today, fundamentalists are targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. Recently, there were attacks on Hindu temples. Such attackers are not even punished. It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to punish them.
