A fire at a hospital in Bhandup last month left 11 patients dead

MUMBAI: Four Corona patients were killed in a fire at a hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, last night. Another 27 patients admitted to the hospital were rescued. The police have taken note of the matter and are conducting further investigations.

However two patients had previously died from corona. His body is said to have been kept in the hospital before the proceedings were completed. The hospital was accused of violating the required rules.

Suryavanshi, a senior police inspector at the Wadi police station, said the Veltrit Hospital was located on the Wadi premises on the Nagpur-Amravati road. Corona's patient was admitted to this hospital. The fire broke out in the ICU of the hospital at around 8 pm last night.

The air conditioner is suspected to have spread after the fire broke out. Tulsiram Parghi (b. 47), Shivshakti Sonbhadra (b. 35), Prakash Bode (b. 69) and female patient Ranjana Kadu (b. 44) who were undergoing treatment for corona died. The fire brigade managed to contain the blaze overnight.

Other patients were evacuated with the help of firefighters and hospital staff. The smoke from the fire worsened the patient's health. One doctor and staff were found injured while rescuing the patient. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed grief for the deceased.

Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis and MLA Sameer Meghe instructed to help the patients. Minister Sunil Kedar also visited the spot. Earlier during the lockdown, Bhandara Hospital fire engulfed 10 newborns. A safety check was ordered against all hospital fires in Maharashtra.
