In West Bengal, the final phase of Assembly elections is being held on Thursday. Voting is taking place in a total of 35 assembly seats in 4 districts in the eighth and final phase of polling. This phase includes 6 seats in Malda, 11 in Birbhum, 11 in Murshidabad and 7 in Kolkata North. Exit polls for the Bengal elections will be announced late in the evening while the results will be declared on May 2.

BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty cast his vote today at Kashipur-Belagachhia in North Kolkata. "Today is the first time I have voted in such a peaceful atmosphere for which I wish the security personnel well," Mithun said after the vote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted urging people to vote. "Today is the final phase of elections in Bengal," he wrote. With the adherence to the Corona Protocol you people vote and strengthen this epic of democracy.

The CPI-M-Congress-ISF alliance is hoping for good results in Murshidabad district, the home constituency of Congress leader Adhir Chaudhary. The Congress is also trying to get some votes in its traditional stronghold of Malda district, which was once the stronghold of Union Minister AB Gani Khan Chowdhury.
