EVM found from TMC leader's house in Bengal, officer suspended, Election Commission clarifies

In West Bengal, the third phase of polling for a total of 31 seats has started since Tuesday morning. With the commencement of polling, a series of allegations between BJP and TMC has also started. The TMC alleged that voters were being harassed at the polling booths. The BJP leader has alleged that an EVM machine was found outside the TMC leader's house.

BJP candidate Chiran Bera from Uluberia North has alleged that EVMs and VVIP machines were found at the house of TMC leader Gautam Ghosh on the night before the polls. The BJP leader has accused the TMC of rigging the elections. This caused the situation to deteriorate late at night and the security forces had to charge with batons.

The Election Commission has taken action after an EVM was recovered from the TMC leader's house and a sector officer has been suspended. According to the Election Commission, it was a reserve EVM and was not to be used in voting. He further said that Sector Officer Tapan Sarkar took EVM and went to sleep at his relative's house which is a violation of the rules.
