The Election Commission has sought a detailed report from the district election officer on the discovery of an EVM in an unoccupied car at Karimganj in Assam. Political tensions have risen in the area since the EVMs were found. The EVM was found in a Bolero car at Kanisail in Karimganj and no one was in the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle belonged to BJP candidate Krishnendu Pal from Patharkandi constituency. When the election officials reached the vehicle after the complaint was made by the people, no polling officer, no employee of the Election Commission was present there and even later no candidate came forward.

The video of the EVM being found in the vehicle is also going viral. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has demanded a re-evaluation of EVMs from all political forces after the video came to light. In a tweet questioning EVM management, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "Every time an EVM is caught being taken away in a private vehicle during an election, many things are the same. First, the vehicle usually belongs to a BJP candidate or his associates."

In another tweet, Priyanka explained the chronology, saying, "This type of video is taken as an incident and later rejected. At the same time, the BJP uses its media apparatus to accuse people of taking EVMs in private vehicles.

"The fact is that many such incidents are reported and nothing is done about it," he added. The Election Commission needs to take decisive action on such complaints and start re-evaluation of EVMs by all national forces.
