Corona crisis looms large: Maharashtra CM talks to PM, demands 1,500 metric tonnes of oxygen

The situation in the country is deteriorating further following the transition to Corona. Maharashtra is witnessing the highest incidence of corona and 63,729 new cases of corona have been reported in the last 24 hours. In addition, 398 people have lost their lives in the state. As many as 49 people were killed in Mumbai with 8,217 new cases, according to figures released by Maharashtra on Thursday.

The total number of cases of corona in Maharashtra has risen to 5,53,159 and the death toll has risen to 12,189 as of Thursday. According to a report, there are more than 86,000 active cases of corona in Mumbai. As the Corona crisis intensifies in the state, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He briefed the Prime Minister on the shortage of oxygen amid corona conditions in the state. He said the state needs 1200 to 1500 metric tonnes of oxygen and demanded that oxygen be provided by airlift as it is an emergency.

Uddhav Thackeray also held a review meeting on Friday in which he directed the people to submit Corona's report as soon as possible. BMC Commissioner IS Chahal was also present at the meeting. Chahal said Mumbai's 153 Kovid hospitals have 20,400 beds and will increase the number of beds to 22,000 by next week. According to him, 8 to 10 thousand cases are coming up daily in the state and about 10 thousand patients are recovering and going home every day. Currently 3,900 beds are vacant.
