CBI to probe allegations against Deshmukh in Rs 100 crore recovery case: HC decision

- Bombay High Court verdict on petition of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh

New delhi date. Monday, April 5, 2021

The Mumbai High Court on Monday delivered a landmark judgment during the hearing of a petition filed by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh. The CBI will now probe allegations of recovery of Rs 100 crore. The Bombay High Court has given its verdict in the case against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. However, the CBI will not immediately register a case in this regard.

The Bombay High Court said an FIR has been lodged in the case during the hearing on the application and an inquiry was requested by the police. Anil Deshmukh has been charged and is the home minister of the state, the court said. In these circumstances one cannot rely on the police for an impartial investigation. Therefore, the CBI should investigate this case.

As per the order of the Bombay High Court, the CBI should conduct a preliminary inquiry in which everyone has to cooperate. The report will be handed over to the CBI director within 15 days. If the CBI report strengthens the case against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, the CBI will register an FIR.

What is the whole controversy

After the transfer of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh, he wrote a letter claiming that Anil Deshmukh had given Sachin Waje a target of Rs 100 crore recovery from Mumbai. Apart from this, Paramvir Singh had leveled several other allegations against Anil Deshmukh.

Paramvir Singh first knocked on the door of the Supreme Court in the matter but the Supreme Court had asked him to go to the High Court first.
