BJP gives district panchayat ticket to Kuldeep Sanger's wife convicted in rape case

In Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party has given a ticket to Sangeeta Sanger, wife of Kuldeep Singh Sanger, convicted in the Unnao rape case, for the district panchayat elections. Kuldeep's wife Sangeeta is currently the chairperson of the district panchayat and became an independent chairperson in 2016. Kuldeep Sanger was a BJP MLA but was expelled from the party after being convicted in a misdemeanor case.

Kuldeep's wife Sangeeta Sanger has been fielded by the BJP as a candidate for the district panchayat seat from Fatehpur 84th constituency. Besides, former district president Anand Awasthi Sarosi I and Nawabganj outgoing bloc president Arun Daksh and Auras II will contest as BJP candidates.

Kuldeep Singh Sanger has been a four-time MLA from Bangaramu on a BJP ticket. He was arrested in 2017 in the much-discussed Unnao rape case. He was then expelled from the party by the BJP in August 2019 and his membership of the Legislative Assembly was later terminated.

Last year, the court convicted Kuldeep Singh Sanger of rape and kidnapping and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also sentenced all the convicts, including Sanger, to 10 years in prison in connection with the death in police custody of the rape victim's father. The court said the convict would remain in jail till the last breath of his normal life.
