Uttarakhand tragedy: The glaciers melted and fell as the temperature rose

(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. 6
Scientists from the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development presented the reasons behind the Uttarakhand tragedy. The report claimed that melting glaciers and heavy rains due to the constantly rising temperature were the main responsible factors behind the tragedy.
The report from the Kathmandu-based scientific institute said that the temperature in the Himalayan range has risen steadily over the last four decades. This caused the icebergs to melt and collapse. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in the area. The tragedy happened as large stones moved. Scientists say an avalanche moved just below the Ronti hill and caused a landslide.
In the analysis, the scientists found that 3 lakh cubic meters of rocks fell with ice. This caused the water level to rise and the water rushed out of the bank and started flowing at a fast speed. The team of international scientists in Nepal includes scientists from eight countries. Which includes India-Nepal-China etc.
The tragedy happened in Uttarakhand exactly a month ago. The water level in Rishi Ganga near Chamoli had risen between February 3 and 4, causing severe devastation. About 50 people were killed and more than 15 were missing.
