Some OTT platforms show pornography, need to be screened: Supreme Court

During the hearing of the ongoing controversy over the Tandav web series, the Supreme Court said that pornography was displayed on some OTT platforms. The Supreme Court has expressed concern over this and at the same time said that the content coming on the OTT platform needs to be screened. The Supreme Court has sought information from the government about the rules made for controlling the OTT platform. The next hearing of the case in the Supreme Court will be held on Friday.

The apex court has said this while hearing the anticipatory bail application of Aparna Purohit of Amazon Prime. Cases have been registered against several actors, including Aparna Purohit, and her director for inciting religious sentiments in the web series Thandav.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had rejected Aparna Purohit's plea. Aparna then filed an application in the Supreme Court. The case is being heard in the Supreme Court today for just two minutes. At the outset of the hearing, Justice Ashok Bhushan said that the content displayed on the OTT platform should be screened.

He says the way films pass censor boards. The same should be true for OTT programs. The court said that the OTT shows pornography on the platform, adding that the solicitor general of the government further said that apart from this, there are also spaces within most of the programs.
