Pakistan is disappointed with US remarks on Kashmir

After the Modi government repealed the clause granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, Pakistan had hoped that the US Trump administration would support the issue, but Pakistan's hopes were dashed.

On the other hand, India had also announced to make Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory. After the departure of the Trump administration, the Biden administration has also been seen supporting India on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, which has increased Pakistan's frustration.

The US State Department in its press briefing has once again described Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory of India. As a result, the Biden government seems to support the Modi government's decision to remove Article 370. Discussions have started in the Pakistani media about it. According to a Pakistani newspaper, on the one hand, the US is reassuring Pakistan that there has been no change in US policy towards Kashmir and on the other hand, the US is considering Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory of India.

"We welcome all steps taken by India to normalize the situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in line with Indian democracy," a spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry said.

Last month, the US also hailed the decision to resume internet services in Kashmir, calling Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory of India.
