The government on Wednesday said there was no proposal to release the 2011 caste-based census data. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai gave this information in a written reply to a question from the state.
He said that the socio-economic and gender census (SECC) in rural and urban areas was conducted in 2011 by the Ministry of Rural Development, Urban and Urban Poverty Alleviation, respectively.
He said that excluding caste figures, the SECC 2011 figures have been finalized and published by the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Rae said the raw data on caste has been made available to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for classification. According to information provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, there is no proposal to release gender-related statistics in this situation.
