Death of Padma Bhushan Award winning painter Laxman Pai


- Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed grief over Pai's death

Renowned painter Laxman Pai, who was honored with the Padma Bhushan award, passed away at his residence in Goa on Sunday evening. He was 95 years old and he breathed his last at his home in Donna Paula.

Born in Goa in 1926, Pai has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Shri, the Nehru Award and the Academy of Fine Arts.

The Chief Minister expressed his condolences

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed grief over Pai's death. He tweeted, "Saddened by the death of Goa's famous artist Padmabhushan Shri Laxman Pai. Goa lost a rattan today. We will always remember his immense contribution in the field of art. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti. '

Digambar Kamat, Leader of Opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly, also expressed grief over Pai's death and said that Pai was working on his painting till his last breath.
