The statement made by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat regarding the fashion of torn jeans prevalent among women has been widely criticized. From political forces to social media, Tirath Singh is being targeted. Amidst this wave of protests, a video of Tirath Singh has surfaced in which he remembers an incident in his college where students wear shorts and question him.

In the video, Tirath Singh says, "A girl from Chandigarh at the time I was studying in Srinagar, she was ours but came from Chandigarh. What do you say cut it ... a few days of making fun of it, because all the boys were running after it. You have come to study in the university .. why do you show more body .. what will happen. '

There is no confirmation as to when the video was made, but protests have begun. Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Delhi Women's Commission's Swati Maliwal and others have opposed Tirath Singh's controversial statement with torn jeans.
