279 schoolgirls were abducted last week from a school in Nigeria. As a result, questions are again being raised about the safety of women and students in Nigeria. Bello Matwale, the governor of Nigeria's Zamfara state in Bhis, said the students had been released and were safe.

Earlier on Friday, 279 students were abducted and disappeared after a gunman broke into a senior secondary government school in Jangab Town. His parents and the government were worried.

Surprisingly, the information reached the army at the time of the abduction. But the militants also attacked army camps and abducted students at gunpoint.

However, the army later chased the terrorists and released all the abducted students. Many terrorist organizations have become active in Nigeria and student abductions have been on the rise for the past few years. Twenty-four students and six staff members were abducted from Kangra Government College in Niger State and later released on Saturday.

In December last year alone, 300 students were abducted from Kankara and later released. The most talked about kidnapping came in 2014 when a Nigerian terrorist group called Boko Haram abducted 276 students from school and made a video of it. Out of which more than 100 students are still missing.
