Efforts are being made to make working hours more flexible for employees under the new labor law. It is proposed that a maximum of 48 hours work be done in a week from the employee under it. To make the rules flexible, it may be that if an employee works 48 hours in 4 days a week, i.e. 12 hours per day, he can be given the remaining 3 days off.

However, for this, the daily working hours limit is 8 hours and it has to be increased to 12 hours. According to reports, Union Labor Secretary Apoorva Chandra said on Monday that a maximum of 48 hours would be fixed for employees during the week.

Permission to shift in daily working hours

Companies may be allowed to change their daily working hours with the approval of employees. This means that if an employee wants to work 10 to 12 hours in a single day and complete his target in 4 to 5 days instead of working 6 days a week. It also includes intervals in between.

What are the current rules

According to the current provision, the working week is 6 days in 8 working hours and one day is allowed. According to the proposal, a person will not work for more than 5 consecutive hours without an interval of at least half an hour. The employee will be given paid leave for the rest of the week. The Ministry of Labor and Employment will soon finalize the rules of the 4th Labor Code, Chandra said.
