Bombay High Court Judge Pushpa Ganediwala's term has been extended by one year after hearing controversial verdicts in two cases of sexual harassment. However the Supreme Court Collegium recommended extending his tenure for two years.

His term was due to end on Friday and the new term will take effect on February 13. Following two controversial decisions by Ganediwala, the Supreme Court collegium last month withdrew its approval of a proposal to appoint Additional Judge Ganediwala as a permanent judge.

Judge Pushpa Ganediwala of the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, in his order passed on January 19, said that any incident of molestation should be categorized as sexual exploitation with sexual intent. He said grouping Sagira would not fall into the category of sexual abuse. While in another case holding Sagira's hand and unzipping her pants is not a sexual assault under POCSO.
