The government announced these guidelines for social media and OTT platforms

The central government today unveiled guidelines for social media and over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad said the new guidelines cover social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter as well as OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar.

The guideline announced by the government is as follows

For social media

--All social media sites have to create a mechanism to look into complaints. Complaints will be made in 24 hours and resolved in 14 days.

--If there is a complaint about the respect of users and especially women, such content has to be removed within 24 hours.

--Significant social media sites will have to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer and he will be Indian.

--A nodal officer has to be appointed, who will be in touch with the legal agencies 24 hours a day

--Really compliance report will have to be released

--The name of the person who may have abused social media has to be made public

--Every social media company in India should have an address

--The rule for social media will come into effect from today when Significand Social Media Intermediary will be given three months.

Guide line for OTT platform

--- OTT and digital news media have to provide detailed information about themselves. Registration is not mandatory.

--Both have to set up a system to look into complaints. If there is a mistake, you have to correct it yourself

The OTT platform will have to create a self-regulation body led by a retired Supreme Court judge or celebrity.

- Like the censor board, OTT should also have a system for issuing certificates according to age. The ethics code will be the same as for TV and cinema.

--Digital media portals do not have the right to spread rumors and lies
