West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken to the streets in protest of rising petrol-diesel prices. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held an e-bike rally in Kolkata on Thursday. At the rally, they were sitting on the back of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakeem's e-bike and wearing expensive posters around their necks. The e-bike rally was held from Harish Chatterjee Street to State Secretariat Nabanna.

Petrol and diesel prices have been steadily rising in the country. In many cities, petrol prices have crossed 100. On Thursday, petrol was priced at Rs 91.12 per liter and diesel at Rs 84.19 per liter in Kolkata. Troubled by the petrol-diesel price hike, people are demanding that the government cut the heavy taxes imposed on it.

During the current month, petrol price has gone up by 13 days to Rs 3.63 per liter. Diesel prices have risen by Rs 3.84 in 13 days. To relieve this, the governments of 4 states have reduced VAT or other taxes. However, the central government is not in the mood to give any concessions and is levying a tax of around Rs 33 per liter on petrol.
