India closes: 80 million traders to join strike on February 26, markets to remain closed

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAT), the apex body of traders, has called for an India shutdown on February 26 to demand simplification of the GST system. At the same time, the All India Transport Welfare Association (AITWA), the apex body in the field of road transport, has also announced a 'chakkajam' on the same day in support of CAT. Due to this, all commercial markets will be closed on February 26.

Pickets at 1,500 places

The General Secretary of CAT said that picketing will be held in 1,500 places across the country on February 26 demanding that the Central Government, State Governments and the GST Council end the drastic provisions of Goods and Services Tax (GST). All markets in the country will be closed and pickets will be held in various cities in all the states as part of the protests.

Transport closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All state level transport unions have backed CAT in opposition to the new e-way bill introduced by the Government of India. Meanwhile, all transport offices have been declared completely closed. Booking, delivery, loading and unloading of any type of goods will be completely closed. All transport companies have been asked to park their vehicles from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the protest.
