From today, if there is no 'fastag', you will have to pay double toll tax

Automatic payment system Fastag will be mandatory at toll plazas across the country from 12 noon on Monday. The central government said in a statement on Sunday. People who have not fastened their vehicles so far may have to pay double toll tax if they do not work.

If there is no fastag, fines will also be levied on the toll plaza according to the category of vehicles which can be double the toll fee. Earlier on Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that the deadline for installing Fastag would not be extended further and it would be implemented in toll plazas across the country from Monday night.

He also appealed to the people to take advantage of this e-payment facility to pay the toll fee of their vehicle. This will not only benefit the citizens but also save time. Fastag provides an electronic facility to offset the charges incurred at goal plazas. This was introduced in 2016,

The biggest advantage of this system is that vehicles do not have to stand at the toll plaza for any kind of compensation. Gadkari also said that the registration of Fastag on some highways has been completed by 90 per cent and only 10 per cent is left. He said that this facility is also available at Toll Naka which people should take advantage of.

To buy Fastag, one has to provide a copy of driving license and vehicle registration certificate i.e. RC. In addition, the bank also requires a photocopy of PAN card and Aadhaar card for Know Your Customer (KYC). According to the administration, cash payments have now been stopped at the toll plaza. If there is no fastag, the toll tax may have to be doubled.

Fastag has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Vehicles using RFID will be allowed to cross the toll plaza without stopping. The toll tax will be automatically deducted on the vehicle which has Fastag. This tax will be deducted automatically when the vehicle passes the toll plaza.
