In Kerala, a Congress MLA found it so expensive to contribute to the construction of the Ram temple that he had to apologize after clearing the matter. The legislator released the video calling himself a secularist and apologizing to the Muslim community. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) also burnt a statue of Congress MLA Eldhos Kunnapillai, who contributed to the Ram temple.

What is the whole case

MLA Eldhos Kunnapillai on February 8 donated Rs 1,000 to RSS workers for the construction of the Ram temple. Then a photo of him went viral in which he was seen contributing to the construction of the temple to RSS workers. In this photo, he was also holding a card with the image of Ram temple in his hand. However, he later apologized under pressure from the party and claimed that he had been misled by the RSS. He also claimed to be unaware that he had raised funds for the Ram temple. However, in the photo that went viral, the image of the Ram temple in his hand is clearly visible. SDPI activists staged demonstrations against the MLA in various areas of Ernakulam and chanted slogans.

Allegedly misled by RSS

Perumbavur MLA Kunnapillai said some people approached him to ask for donations for certain temples but hid the fact that they belonged to the RSS and were taking donations for the Ram temple. The MLA said in a Facebook video that he had given Rs 1,000 to the activists but later started saying that they had all contributed for the Ram temple. Kunnapillai called himself a secularist and advised the RSS to get involved in politics morally. He also apologized to the Muslim community and lamented the RSS's propaganda if any community's religious sentiments were hurt.

Gave charge of Sabarimala

According to the MLA, he was standing with devotees during Sabarimala's protest because he knew it was his party's stand. He further said that when the Modi government tried to make Muslims second class citizens after bringing in CAA, they joined protests and various fronts.
