Farmers are the breadwinners, what to fight against them? Government withdraws laws: Congress in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, dated 3 February 2021, Wednesday

During a debate in the Rajya Sabha today, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told the government that all three agricultural laws should be withdrawn.

"I want to appeal to the PM that this is our breadwinner. When I call him ours, it does not mean that he belongs to the Congress but to the whole country and what to fight against him," he said.

He said that if the law had been placed in the standing committee, the situation as it is today could have been avoided. He appealed to PM Modi to find the missing farmers and the government should investigate their whereabouts.

Azad also condemned the act of hoisting a religious flag at the Red Fort on January 26, saying, "Our party condemns this act. It should never happen. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands." Even if it happens, innocent farmers should not be trapped, otherwise there will be a danger of another movement.

"Some journalists and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor have also been charged with treason. Shashi Tharoor has led India all over the world. If he is a traitor, then we are also traitors," he said. I appeal to the PM to announce the withdrawal of the law himself. There are many other challenges facing the government, which the government should address.
